Top of the agenda: What impact is the corona pandemic having on the real estate industry?

September 28, 2020
  • More than 50 events in a total of five forums
  • Other key topics: Digitalization and climate protection

The EXPO REAL Hybrid Summit on October 14 and 15 offers a comprehensive conference program, which can be attended on site at the ICM Internationales Congress Center München or online. This year, the main focus will be on how the corona pandemic has affected the real estate industry.

  • One focus of the EXPO REAL FORUM is the corona pandemic and its impact on real estate and investments. For example, how are the demands on office and residential properties changing? What does the pandemic mean for retailers and city centers? Other key topics include climate protection and the mobility transition.
  • The INVESTMENT TOPICS FORUM provides insights into international real estate and investment markets such as the USA, Canada and the UK. Never before have INVESTMENT TOPICS been influenced by developments outside the real estate industry as they have been since spring 2020. Nevertheless, classic real estate and investment topics such as affordable housing, project development and market specifics remain. At the same time, ESG (Environment, Social and Governance) investment criteria are becoming increasingly important.
  • The focus of the PLANNING & PARTNERSHIPS FORUM is on health and care properties, hotels and logistics. While the hotel industry has been hit hard by the pandemic, the logistics market has received a significant boost.
  • In the REAL ESTATE INNOVATION FORUM, renowned experts and industry leaders provide insights into current topics relating to the digital transformation of the industry. Here, the focus is once again on “The future of living and working” and “Hotel real estate,” as well as ‘Valuation, Investments and Transactions” and “Strategies for start-ups.”
  • The DISCUSSION & NETWORKING FORUM is a versatile platform for presentations and discussions on all aspects of the real estate industry. This year, it offers exhibitors a stage to present their projects, markets and other topics.

All speakers and talks can be found online at The site is constantly updated.

All discussion panels will be simultaneously available in English.

Trade fairs not affected by contact restrictions

Munich is currently subject to tightened contact restrictions due to corona. These restrictions do not apply to hosting and participating in trade fairs or conferences. The state government has even expressly permitted trade fairs and exhibitions. The recently announced restrictions only apply to private gatherings, where contact tracing or compliance with hygiene regulations are not possible.

Visitors from abroad are welcome

Visitors from abroad may enter Germany to attend a trade fair. AUMA, the Association of the German Trade Fair Industry, has compiled the essential information on entry regulations for trade fair visitors. The most important facts: There are no travel restrictions for visitors from EU member states and from countries on the safe travel list. Trade fair participants from all other countries may also enter the country because they are travelling for justified business purposes.

More detailed information can be found in a press release in the newsroom area of EXPO REAL.

Proven COVID-19 prevention plan

Messe München’s events are organized in accordance with a sophisticated COVID-19 prevention plan that our experts have drawn up together with other Bavarian trade fair companies and which was ratified by the Bavarian State Government on June 23, 2020. Most recently, this plan was successfully implemented for TrendSet—International Trade Fair for Interiors, Inspiration and Lifestyle, and ensured a safe trade fair for everyone involved.
